I realize this is downtown, but it's cool enough to warrant letting you know about. I just saw it over at MemphisConnect.com and thought I should share.
It seems that there is a new Jazz club that just opened in the basement of A&R Bbq downtown, at the corner of N. Third and Court. The actual entrance is located in the parking garage next door to A&R though so you have to do a little searching to find it. It's called Memphis Sounds and judging from the picture it looks appropriately small and intimate. For some reason I also like how it's hidden as well. It seems fitting. My friends and I have wondered why there is not a real jazz club around here and it seems someone else has too and decided to fill that niche. Hopefully this place sticks around.
A jazz group called Sanctuary Jazz will be playing there the first monday of every month

I wanted to send you information about an awesome event coming to Memphis May 29-30 -- the Bicycle Film Festival! The weekend line up includes film screenings on Friday night at the Brooks Museum, 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. An after party at Nocturnal with Gold Sprints and an hour open bar. Saturday features a block party in Overton Park, another film screening and a rock show Saturday night with the River City Tanlines, Magic Kids, The Warble, and Girls of the Gravitron.
