The place has been closed for a few months now and I think I've reported previously that the for lease sign went down and that a new tenant was imminent. Well, the Memphis Business Journal has confirmed it this morning. According to an article in todays MBJ, Bluff City Bayou will be moving into the great little space soon. Their owners have already signed the lease and it looks like renovations are coming along at a good pace. No reopening date has been announced but it doesn't look that far off.
I'm pretty excited since I'll be able to walk to this place. It's about a half mile or so to my house and I've always thought the patio was nice. I never felt like I could just waltz in there though. Hopefully the neighborhood will keep it busy and open!

"The great patio at the old "One More" lesbian bar at Cooper and Peabody will soon be reopened to the general public and the surrounding neighborhood for all to enjoy."
I did not know One More was a private club...now us regular folks can enjoy it, too, and not just the ladies?? GREAT!
One more wasn’t a “private club”. It was a cozy lesbian bar that anyone could go to. As a former lesbian patron of One More, I took many of my straight male and female friends there. Everyone was welcome, unless of course you were a straight guy trying to pick up a girl there. Lol. But I wonder now that it’s “gone straight “will it be just as accepting as One More was? Hummmm, guess I’ll have to just wait and see….
Duh, Raja. I was being facetious since Ryan made that comment about it being open to the "general public."
Why would you go there if you were not a lesbian? There's nothing wrong with it being a lesbian bar but now EVERYONE can feel comfortable there, not just one particular type of sexuality. I'm willing to be you didn't see too many groups of straight guys or girls walk in and sit down did you? I've lived in midtown for 10 years now and I know I never felt like I would feel welcome there or that it would be accepted mainly because it IS an unspoken fact that large groups of straight people don't hang out at gay bars. Get over yourself and just deal with it. I have no problem with any sort of lesbian bar but I for one am glad that there is another locals type, comfortable bar/restaurant in the area.
went to one more a few times and it was never a comfortable place for a non-lesbian. being a matter of three blocks, i'll definitely try it out.
Great. There are not enough places for straight people to mingle in Memphis so we should all be thrilled that a repressed minority will lose a gathering spot so straight guys can fell comfortable to walk in. I had no idea we had such a progressive readership on this blog. Maybe all of gay midtown should move out so we can have all of their space - cause I don't feel comfortable around them - gay bars give midtown its flavor - sad to see One More go
Lesbian bar or not, One More only served beer and did not take credit cards, which was the only thing about the place that made me (a straight woman) "uncomfortable." I hope the new place will be more accepting of those of us who prefer plastic and whiskey.
The big equipment is pulling in behind the presby. church this morning. Looks like a Chick Filet is on it's way to Midtown.
Plenty of straight people hung out at One More! It was always a good time to be had for all. If you came in and felt uncomfortable it was because the bar was for fun and friends - not a typical straight meat market bar where people get really drunk and hook up. I miss One More.
Well One More wasn't a friendly bar - some of the ladies would look at you with killing eyes. I am glad it is gone...
