I've received several emails and messages about the demolition of the old Bell South building on Madison, next to the P & H and across from the new concert venue, Minglewood Hall. I was by there the other day and snapped a few pictures but the CA just ran an article about the demolition and featured some better pictures than I took, so I decided to just borrow theirs. The article says that the building will be replaced by a green, grassy field and it really makes it seem like no one knows what is going on with it. They can't even get straight who owns the place. When I was over there the other day, I got to talking with some of the construction guys and they didn't know a whole lot either. The only thing I got out of them was that the owner of the building was NOT the same owner as the people that own Minglewood Hall. My first suspicion is that some entrepenuer is going to open a parking lot or garage to take advantage of Minglewood being across the street. The concert venue supposedly holds 1500 people and will have future retail tenants and offices that would mean even more people being in the place and I really don't see where all of these people are going to park. There is a decently sized lot and some street space right now but it doesnt seem like enough. So I'm betting that someone realized this and is replacing the Bellsouth building with something to take advantage of this fact. Ideas from anyone??

i immediately thought parking lot, too. grassy field is refreshing, but i suspect it will be short lived.
yeah that's the shit that wakes me up every morning at 7am. just blow the damn thing up so I can sleep please.
I live a couple of blocks due east of there and nights they have well-attended shows the neighborhood streets for blocks around are packed full of cars. Really obnoxious. And the drunks coming out of the shows are loud.
I foresee some nasty incidents arising from this -- both people having drives blocked and the plentiful criminal types on my street helping themselves to the contents of said vehicles.
My neighbor and I are going to talk to a couple of businesses about turning their lots into paying parking lots on nights with good shows. Might as well make some money ....
