Quetzal Gameday Specials and Abortion Clinic Relocation

I just got word that Quetzal is going to be showing the Memphis vs UT basketball game Saturday night on all four of their television screens, including the wall projection unit, and all will be using HD so it should be a great place to watch the game. Also, unlike in a lot of bars, Quetzal will kill the music and broadcast the commentary on their speaker system. They will also be providing free popcorn, snacks and some great cheap drink specials. Usually I watch the games at the Deli, but this sounds like it might be a good alternative.

The Memphis Daily News is reporting that the Memphis Center for Reproductive Health, aka the midtown abortion clinic, which is about 9 houses up the street from me, will be relocating a few blocks east up Poplar Ave. They will be moving their offices into more of a commercial strip at 1724, 1726 and 1734 Poplar Ave. where the Baptist rehab offices used to be, right next to the Indian Restaurant at Evergreen. No news yet on what will be done with the awesome old house that they will be vacating but the article states that it wont be on the market until 2009. I'm just looking forward to actually being able to find a parking spot on the street during the afternoon and weekends! The place has basically no parking lot so everyone that is getting an abortion there has to walk by their lonesome up the street past every house and car on the block, all while taking up every parking space along McNeil in the process.

That's interesting. I just moved to McNeil and I wondered why that area is so congested. I didn't realize that house was a clinic. It is a beautiful building. I hope the new owners will treat it well.

Your description of the entire thing makes me laugh a bit, as un-PC as that is.

We are moving for just some of these reasons. We appreciate our pro-choice neighbors and how so very accepting they are of what we do here at the clinic. We also recognize the burden we place on the neighborhood and so started looking for a spot almost 2 years ago - who knew it would take so long. Once we move and clean up the house (take up carpeting, paint the walls etc.) we will be putting it on the market. Thanks for all the support of the 33 years we have been in this spot.
