Wednesday update (a small one anyway)

The former Overton Park Shell is currently undergoing some serious renovations courtesy of the city of Memphis and the Levitt Foundation. I've posted about it before but a new article in the Memphis Daily News has some new information.

As part of the involvement by the city of Memphis in the renovation of the Overton Park Shell, the UrbanArt Commission is looking for an artist to create a public art project for the space.

The shell, now known as the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts, is being renovated through a partnership between the city of Memphis and Friends of the Levitt Shell, a nonprofit group formed to restore the space and put on free open-air concerts there.

The art project is open to artists who live in the United States, and the budget for the artwork is $75,000. The budget includes the artist's design fee, fabrication, installation and all costs associated with creating the piece including travel for a non-local artist. Application guidelines are available from the UrbanArt Commission and at www.urbanartcommission.org.
